The photos from last weekend came out wonderfully, I am sure they will be cherished for many years to come! The entire family can be in the photo too, just let us know what you have in mind when you arrive. Jesse is bringing his studio lights, tripod and professional camera to get some really wonderful photos. The pictures are $10, and $5 of that money will go directly to CARE. So please, spread the word, and plan to bring those beautiful babies for their photo opp!

Our Fish Fry fundraiser on November 19th was a total success! The weather was beautiful, the fish was great and everyone seemed to enjoy it.

Captain Phil is an experienced cook and restauranteur. He owned the Flying Burrito restaurants in Chapel Hill and Durham until 2007 and now operates out of Carteret county where he lives in Marshallburg. He brings fresh fish from the coast to Chatham and Orange three days a week during the season. He cooks a mean hush puppy and makes a sauce for his fish tacos and sandwiches that is to die for. His regular stops are Country Farm and Home (Southern States) in Pittsboro, Southern Village and Fitch Lumber in Carrboro.

He fed close to 45 people who came out to support CARE. We raised $300 plus received $57 in donations!

It was fun and a huge success. We talked to Captain Phil about doing it again when he starts up his regular schedule in the Spring. The Southern States folks, whose idea this was, were thrilled and amazed that so many folks came out and would also like to do this again.

If you go by the Southern States store in Pittsboro, be sure to thank Dallas or his daughter, Malinda, who now runs the store.

In addition to our adopters and donors, we would like to give thanks to the veterinary hospitals that provided the care for all these felines! They didn’t hesitate to take them in at the last minute, sometimes 4 and 5 at a time! Some had to be boarded for days before their schedule allowed space to do their surgeries and that was OK with the staff. Their flexibility and willingness to help is greatly appreciated! Thanks to Chatham Veterinary Services, Hope Crossing Animal Hospital, and Hill Creek Veterinary Hospital.

Being a small group of cat fosters, this situation was a huge undertaking for us. We are extremely glad this turned out as well as it has for so many of these cats. Happy Endings…

We decided to change our strategy regarding the remaining kitties on site due to the number of females with the potential to have more kittens! Extremely happy to report that the remaining cats have now been trapped, vetted, and have either been placed or are awaiting forever homes in tempory foster care.

Four Recent Placements:
One lucky girl was adopted last week by a vet tech at the clinic which provided her care.
A wonderful barn home was found for three feral girls together this weekend! Awesome placements!

What is needed now?

MORE ADOPTIONS!!!

We have 4 cats that are very friendly and need indoor only placements and 1 kitty that would like either a safe barn/outside home or might be OK inside. If you can adopt one of these kitties, please email help@chathamanimalrescue.org. There is no adoption fee for these cats.

*White Nose is a DMH brown/grey tabby with white female adult. She is outgoing and gets along with other cats. Very beautiful girl. You can see why her name is White Nose! Needs indoor home.

* Kitton is a Maine Coon mix brown/grey tabby with white male adult with potential to be your best friend! Handsome guy! Needs indoor home.

Kitton

* For those who love their orange tabbies, Big Boy is starting to come out of his shell and will make a great cat for a safe barn/outside adoption. He could even progress to an indoor situation, given time. Might be better as the only cat as he liked throwing his weight around! Hunky, chunky boy!

Big Boy

*Godfrey has been our poster cat for kitties in need! This sweet black and white tux gentleman was taken in early by one of our cat women on the scene. He was found to be lethargic, extremely thin, and just lying by the gravel drive with little hope for his future. Mr. G was so affectionate and wanted to get on your lap even in his sad condition. At the vet he was given fluids, his multiple abscesses treated, labwork checked. He stayed at the vet because he was very weak and needed extra care. Finally, he began eating and feeling more perky so he was taken in by a very special temporary foster mom where he awaits his future family. Godfrey did test FIV positive, but this will not keep him from being adopted into a wonderful indoor home and having a fulfilling life. Godfrey is our miracle boy!

Godfrey: happy again!

*Teacup is a very colorful Torbie girl that is so friendly and affectionate. She turns belly up for rubs and really wants a forever home soon.

Teacup wants in carrier!

MORE DONATIONS!!!

It’s unbelievable the generousity we have experienced to help these unfortunate babies! To date, CARE has received almost $1900 from donors wanting to make sure the cats are cared for. WOW! But, we need to keep going. A few of these kitties have required extensive medical care and emergency visits beyond the usual basic vetting. Our goal is still $3,000 and I know we can do it! So, please go to www.chathamanimalrescue.org to donate Emergency Funds for the Siler City Cats. Thanks go out to all our donors! We couldn’t have taken this on without you!

“All funds raised above and beyond those necessary for this special animal(s) will be directed to CARE’s general fund for the use of all CARE animals.”

And special thanks to our adopters! We have had 11 cats go out in a little over a week. It’s heartwarming to see how many folks are able to take in these not-so-perfect, but oh-so-deserving cats. We will be updating the blog with some Happing Ending pics very soon!

Thank you for all your support and good wishes,

Signed, the Cat Women of CARE

Glad to report we will have our first 7 vetted cats going to their new homes this weekend/early next week! CARE fosters have also made space for 6 more who wait for forever homes. This is truly a wonderful effort and worth it to get these babies out of this neglectful situation.

How can you help?
IMMEDIATE NEED: There are 6 feral/shy cats still on site that we will be unable to help unless safe barn/outside homes are found ASAP. We cannot trap them until someone steps up to take them. That means they remain in those filthy conditions. 1 DLH buff male, 1 large orange tabby male, 1 buff tabby sex unknown, 1 gray and white sex unknown, 1 Maine Coon gray male, 1 torbie/white female. See pics included. Contact help@chathamanimalrescue.org OR

Adopt one of the fostered kitties who will make great inside companions. Contact help@chathamanimalrescue.org OR

Donate!! We estimate the cost will be $2,800-3,000+ to vet and treat any medical issues, and house until adopted. Funds are desperately needed. Please go to our website www.chathamanimalrescue.org to donate to the Emergency Funds and designate “Siler City Cats”.

Donate!! Dry Pro Plan/Purina One Adult cat food and scoopable litter needed. Contact help@chathamanimalrescue.org to drop off.

Any way you can help is greatly appreciated!

CARE was recently contacted about a group of 20 cats that needed rescuing just outside of Siler City. Their owner passed away in mid-September after spending nine months in a nursing home. They received little or no attention during that time from any family members. What we found upon arrival was a group of almost 30, not 20, cats that are barely existing.

Some have been suffering in silence with life-threatening injuries, infected wounds, some with severe dental problems, many starving, their bodies ridden with internal and external parasites, living in deplorable conditions in a miserable, filthy, outdoor environment. One senior cat was run over by a car and stoically waiting for someone to care. He luckily is in rescue now and being treated for a broken pelvis, broken teeth, malnutrition, and many parasites and at last report is improving and still purring, head-butting, and generally just a sweet old kitty, he is estimated to be 18 years old!

CARE sent out a plea to our fellow rescue groups in the Triangle area and 2 groups stepped up immediately and both offered to take some of the more urgent cases. We are so grateful for Alley Cats and Angels and Safe Haven for Cats help. Nine cats are now being assessed and treated thanks to them. There are still many out there suffering silently. Chatham County Animal Control has been notified, but before they step in we would like to get as many of these cats as much help as possible. Many of the cats are very friendly, some are shyer and would need a patient person to befriend them. Some will not need more than food and parasite treatment, deworming, etc. and testing and spay/neutering. CARE will cover this and there will be no adoption fee for these cats. We just want them to have a chance in a loving environment. There are some very loving cats out there who would be great pets, lap cats, and barn cats, we are sure.

If you or anyone you know might be interested in helping any of these cats by adopting or fostering, please let us know ASAP. We could also use donations for potential medical costs but really need to get the word out about this urgent situation so we can help more of these cats.

Thank you!
