Pittsboro, NC: Chatham Animal Rescue and Education, Inc. (CARE) held its 8th Annual Woof-A-Palooza dog walk fundraiser on Saturday, September 19, 2009 in Pittsboro at Central Carolina Community College in Pittsboro. This one-mile dog walk fundraiser raises money to support the expenses of cats and dogs in volunteer foster homes. The animals of CARE are rescued from the Chatham County Animal Shelter or the local community and live in volunteer foster homes until they are adopted by a permanent, loving home. Over 150 animal lovers participated on Saturday morning ignoring the threat of rain. They were entertained by Matt Daniels playing live acoustic music and by Corporal Matt Morrison of the Criminal Enforcement Team and Valerie Broadway of Canine Coaching Services.
Pittsboro Mayor Randy Voller kicked off the event by issuing a Resolution from the Town of Pittsboro declaring Saturday, September 19th, "Woof-A-Palooza Day!" The Mayor led the walk with one of his chocolate Labrador retrievers along with three generous young adults - Hope Anderson (age 9), Jamie Nadasky (age 8) and Lilly Lennard (age 4). Donations were collected at their last birthday party for the animals of CARE. Instead of having others give to them - they each chose to give to the animals of CARE instead.
The top fundraiser for this year's walk was Laura DeGraff who raised over $1,700 in personal pledges, followed by Karen Sirls, Cathy Holt and Patti Liegl. They received gift certificates to The Carolina Brewery & Grill in Pittsboro as well as gift certificates to Kristen Blackwell Designs and Vespertine, Hummingbird Farm and Twig or Attagirl! K9.
Pam Fulk, President of CARE's board of directors remarked, "A huge thank you goes out to the friends of CARE that came out for the walk as well as the corporate sponsors. Their financial support makes a huge difference in the lives of animals in Chatham County- especially in this challenging economy. The demands for CARE's services have increased dramatically this year. The all volunteer fundraising committee's passion for CARE was evident in every aspect of the planning for this critical event. Thank you to the entire committee for making this the most successful Woof-A-Palooza! Everything was stellar!"
CARE's corporate sponsors played a critical role in financial success of this fundraiser for CARE. CARE would like to thank the sponsors of the event and asks that you please support these civic minded businesses. There were four levels of sponsorship available: Platinum, Gold, Silver and Bronze. Platinum Sponsor: Wal-Mart Super Center, Siler City. Gold Sponsors: Amanda, Derek and Evan Dittenhoefer, Doggie Spa & Day Care, Godon Construction, Inc., Hope Crossing Animal Hospital, and Employees of LIPOSCIENCE. CARE has been making a difference in the lives of animals for over 30 years. Chatham Animal Rescue and Education was originally founded in 1975 as Chatham Humane Society. Without the financial support of generous, civic minded corporate sponsors, individual pledges and volunteers, they would not be able to save the lives of animals in Chatham County. Please visit their website at www.chathamanimalrescue.org if you would like more information. Donations can be mailed to CARE, P.O. Box 610, Pittsboro, NC 27312.
