Lola's Time | Cold nights on a concrete bed,
I ran beyond steel bars,
in dreams of clover everywhere.
Mornings brought one last hand
for curious little noses
to find some comfort there.
One day I eagerly watched,
one pup was led to the right,
her tail wagging happily.
Thankful to be out of the cage,
her excitement filled the air,
when she went home to family. | Other days I quietly watched
as most were led to the left,
their tails sagging warily.
Thankful to be out of the cage,
before a struggle filled the air,
as they went Home to be Free.
Nine days dragged by,
when the hand came my way,
yet, I would not think to bite.
Thankful to be free of the cage,
my resignation filled the air,
but then they led me to the right.
